Letter from Israel
"I hope the following reaches a wide audience" writes Daphne Anson. It's a letter from a small village between Ashkelon and Kiryat Malachi. Here is part of it (you can read the full letter on Daphne's blog). I publish it here because I think many of us should re-adjust our moral and yes political compass and understand who the real David is in this battle against a very nasty Goliath, the larger media is not telling us, believe me!:
Writes Leonie Lachmish:
"....Did you know that the IDF made thousands of phone calls to Gaza households and dispatched thousands of fliers in Gaza warning people to stay away from where the terrorists are because we are targeting them?
Do people in the west realize that the Jewish enemy cares more about the welfare of the population of Gaza than the cynical, cruel terrorist entity who is supposedly meant to be taking care of them?
Do people understand that if and when civilians are hurt in Gaza it is because all our attempts to protect them have been thwarted mainly by the insistence of their 'protectors' to act from densely populated areas and specifically mosques, kindergartens, schools, you get the picture?
Do they understand that misrepresenting Israel in the world means strengthening the oppression of women in Gazan society and the abuse of children, being brought up with hatred 24/7 on TV, in schools, trained to be shahidim (martyrs - i.e, mass murderers of the Israeli or western enemy) as an ideal.
I see a demonstration of "Jewish Homosexuals and Lesbians for Gaza" and rub my eyes. Where is the only place in the Middle East where Jews / homosexuals / lesbians can live freely or live at all (let alone if you're both!) ? Gaza perhaps?
Even after 12 years of living under fire, my friend, Esther, in Kibbutz Alumim on the border, says "Can't we brainwash them with 'All we are saying is give peace a chance'?" But the problem is that their aim is not for peace and quiet and a good education and future for their population but to keep their population ignorant , needy and resolute to anihilate us and cause us pain. havoc and despair. We are not talking about neighbours like Canada here, or New Zealand. We are talking about a fundamentalist Muslim terrorist entity.
Our aim is to stop the attacks on our civilians. In the west, people seem to preoccupy themselves with the numbers killed on each side. So I am stating the obvious, and please do the same, state the obvious, when speaking with people who don't understand: Israel is a sovereign state under attack by terrorists.
The enlightened western world should be unshiftingly on Israel's side and in awe at the wondrous brilliant way Israel is surgically attacking the root of evil there. Please make it clear to people that if not for the amazing Iron Dome missile interceptor and the safe rooms and safety zones, there would be hundreds of Israelis killed and thousands maimed from the hundreds of rockets over the past few days. That Hamas is committing crimes against humanity and war crimes. Israel's retaliation is surgical, brilliantly avoiding civilian injuries, taking out the terrorist chief of staff and sending him to his 72 virgins.
Anyone who thinks the IDF is trying to kill civilians needs to wake up and smell the humus. The IDF must be an incredibly shabby army if in 6 days of air attacks, it only manages to kill under one hundred people, at least half of them terrorists! If our aim were to kill Palestinians, surely it would be more likely for there to be under 100 left, rather than 100 killed!
Israel's only 'crime against humanity' if any was the restraint she has shown time and time again so as not to 'escalate violence in the region', her only "crime" was against her own civilians. Which country in the world would (or should) tolerate 12000 rockets on their civilians and 12 years of trauma and fear for children in Sderot, in the kibbutzim and moshavim in the south and more recently, over a million Israelis hostages to the whims of the terrorist entity controlling Gaza? 13% of Israel's population - that would be the equivalent of London being bombed for 12 years.
As of Thursday, the rockets are reaching Tel Aviv and if not for the wonderful Iron Dome, this would mean hundreds of people killed and wounded and tens of homes destroyed.
As I write, 2.30 pm Tuesday 20th November, Jerusalem is again under attack. The mind boggles as to why they would be trying to blow up the city they claim is their holy capital. Perhaps they just don't like built-up areas. That would also explain storing explosives and shooting from densely-populated areas so even our pin-pointed surgical operations can't help but harm civilians no matter how hard we try not to.
Please pray for Israel, support Israel and stand up for Israel. Hamas commits war crimes daily. Attacking a neighbouring country, aiming to kill men, women and children, is a crime against humanity.
We are not the Goliath in this story, we are David up against Islamic fundamentalist terror supported by Iran. Support Israel and you support the democratic and humanist values of the free world.
Support our enemies and you undermine those very values and play into the hands of those who despise freedom and love.'"
Quote of the day:

needs to wake up and smell the humus "

HAMAS uses Women and Children...
...as human shields. They said so themselves:
Whereas the much defamed and maligned Israeli Defence Forces ...
So said Colonel Richard Kemp in a statement to the UN, and he should know, he is the former commander of the British forces in Afghanistan. He served with NATO and the United Nations; commanded troops in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Macedonia; and participated in the Gulf War. He spent considerable time in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, and worked on international terrorism for the UK Government’s Joint Intelligence Committee.

"...did more to safeguard the rights of civilians in a combat zone than any other army in the history of warfare..."

The Israeli Arab Conflict Explained...
...in a very simple way:
Or, if you like your history lessons a little more
satirical and in your face, then this one is for you :
The answer, why this conflict is the hardest to solve may lay in what Golda Meir so memorably put in a nutshell when she spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. in 1957::
“Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.”
12 years later, during a Press Conference in London she said this, which is also still relevant today (or even more so):
“When peace comes we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons.”
Update:
And here are the latest and "real" news from Melanie Phillips who suggests that you might not have received them via the main media.

GAZA, ISRAEL, EGYPT
The other day, in defense of angry egyptian islamists, someone said: “Wouldn’t you be angry too, if your people had built magnificent Pyramides, and that now you were reduced to such poverty?” (*)
That made me think and question myself, genuinely question myself: what good has come out of Egypt more recently?
Islam?
Note to self: when you meet a Coptic Christian, ask him or her what he thinks of the Muslim invasion of Egypt and the deplacement of his people. **)
Arafat?
Note to self: if you ever have the chance to meet the widow (no, not his widow who is sitting in Paris on the billions he stole from the Palestinian people) I mean ask one of the widows of the Israeli Olympic team of 1972.
The images coming out of Tahir Square during the Obama-facilitated Arab Spring?
Note to self: Ask LARA LOGAN what these images cost her.
Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, who is ruling Egypt now?
Note to self: ask the people of Israel.
The Muslim brotherhood whose credo was and still is: "Allah is our objective; the Quran is our law, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations" ?
Note to self: watch this video and listen to David Harris :
*) Cairo: A leading Egyptian jihadist, who fought in Afghanistan on the side of militant Taliban, has called for the removal of the world-famed Pyramids and the Sphinx, branding them idols.
Al Gohari, who was imprisoned twice in the era of Hosni Mubarak but released by a court verdict after the 2011 popular uprising that toppled the long-standing president. told the privately owned Egyptian Dream TV: “We destroyed the Buddha statues in Afghanistan and will destroy the Sphinx and the Pyramids because they are idols. The Muslims are obliged to apply the Sharia (Islamic law), including the removal of the idols.”
**) Muslim conquest of Egypt: The Muslim invasion of Egypt took place in AD 639. Despite the political upheaval, the Egyptian population remained mainly Christian. However, the gradual conversions to Islam over the centuries changed Egypt from a Christian to a largely Muslim country by the end of the 12th century. Egypt's Umayyad rulers taxed Christians at a higher rate, driving merchants towards Islam and undermining the economic base of the Coptic Church.

Gaza: Rockets, Bollywood and updates
A little counter-weight to the partisan "news" of our national, tax-payer funded ABC who leads its news with their usual subliminal and not so subliminal messages:
Time to expose a little Bollywood scene from Gaza which illustrates that that particular emperor is not so much naked as disguised:
And then there are the women
the women and the children,
always the women and the children,
Jews do eat Arab children for breakfast,
don't they?!
"…The world as a whole, not just the occasional liberal brat, will continue being disappointed in Israel for not having magically and non-violently resolved the dilemma of people shooting at it no matter what it does. After all there's already a book titled, "How to Make Peace in the Middle East in Six Months or Less" on the shelf. Why not just read it and do what it says?..." says Sultan Knish in "A Peacetime War or a Wartime Peace
Update:
The IDF (Israeli Defense Force) has dispersed warning leaflets above several locations in the Gaza Strip. This video is from Thursday, Nov. 15, over Khan Yunis.
The leaflet in Arabic reads:
"Important announcement for the residents of the Gaza Strip: For your own safety, take responsibility for yourselves and avoid being present in the vicinity of Hamas operatives and facilities and those of other terror organizations that pose a risk to your safety. Hamas is once again dragging the region to violence and bloodshed. The IDF is determined to defend the residents of the State of Israel. This announcement is valid until quiet is restored to the region. Israel Defense Forces Command."
Update 2:
"...The terrorists [HAMAS] are committing a double war crime: they fire at Israeli civilians, and they hide behind palestinian civilians..." says Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu:
Update 3.

French Flags are flying again in France
AT LAST ! :)
It’s the first time since that dark dark night of the 6th May 2012 that I dare hope again.
The socialist/left alliance had just won the élections (97+ % of the huge muslim community in France had voted for them) and a sea of Arab/Islamist/Jihadist/ flags obscured the one or two timid displays of the French tri-colore that night at the Place de la Bastille in Paris. An omen-inous metaphor for what is happening in France now.
But, thanks not last to two very brave French, Christine Tassin from Resistance Republicaine and Pierre Cassen from Riposte Laique, France is perhaps not lost after all. This here was the first video, released right after the march against Islamic Fascism. It’s raw and only very roughly edited as is their love for the freedom and dignity of their France: (*)

Not Waving But Drowning
Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.
Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.
Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.
Pssst....France might be waving again and not drowning....;)

The Devil
Der Teufel ist im Detail (the devil is in the detail), said Goethe in his Faust I, well this woman thought that the devil was rather in the toaster:
whereas this Schmuser thinks the Devil is a woman or vice versa...(ahhh nostalgia...)

Propaganda
Les enfants palestiniens manipulés et mis en scène dans les manifestations
This video was released a few days ago with French sub-titles. As I have no idea how to "dub" a video, I'll be pedestrian and just translate, as best as I can, the text:
@ 0.02 Minute:
Every week demonstrators meet at Nabi Saleh. They are mostly under 16 y.o.
@ 0.13: They provoke the Israeli soldiers, hoping for a violent reaction.
@ 0:24: In some cases, these children are sent to the demonstrations by their own parents.
@ 0.32: Parents are poised, ready to film the slightest confrontation.
@ 0.43: Adults push the children into the faces of the soldiers, hoping for a violent reaction.
@ 0.56: The little girl waits for the presence of a camera man to put herself into "position".
@ 1:07: the Israeli soldiers, trained for this type of provocation, remain indifferent.
@ 1:12: "Please share this video, because the main media will not show it.
Quote of the day:

your kind acts as the propaganda corps for those who set off bombs."

Remembrance Day
Poppies from a German Daughter
I buy three red poppies:
One for the blood of my German father
that reddened the ruins of Monte Cassino
One for the drops of sweat and youth
left trailing on the Kokoda
by my Australian husband
and One
for the Unknown Soldier.
...But O for the touch of a vanished hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still! ...

The US Election result 2012
I never made a secret of my dislike for Obama (who really dislikes Jews deeply, despite the vote-canvassing niceties he sent in Israel's direction during the last days of his election campaign), but I could not quite put my finger on the deep(ish) malaise I felt at the thought of a Mitt Romney win, and I could even less express it. So, as so often, the delightful Sultan Knish did it for me in his latest article where he writes:
"...The 2012 election was of course a disaster. A complete and thorough disaster. But it was a disaster because Obama and his cronies won. Not because Mitt Romney lost..."
Another of my favorite Cassandras is Melanie Phillips. She writes:
"America goes into the darkness.
The greatest satisfaction today over the re-election of Obama is not being felt in the Democratic Party. It is not being felt among the media, who are no longer objective observers but have turned instead into corrupt partisans who ruthlessly censored the truth about Obama and helped peddle his demonising propaganda about his opponent. It is not being felt among the gloating, drooling decadents of the western left who now scent a great blood-letting of all who dare defy their secular inquisition. No, the greatest satisfaction is surely being felt in Iran... "
Here is a little consolatory poem for Melanie and others who share her inquietude:
"Hope" is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—
And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—
I've heard it in the chillest land—
And on the strangest Sea—
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me.
(Emily Dickinson)
As
to you, Ahmadinejad and Co., take this and smoke it, pfffft!
