It's dark in Australia today

...on this shortest of days when we enjoy (glass half full) or bemoan (glass half empty) our Winter Solistice. This should, at least astronomically,  also be the start of our winter, but Australia (and New Zealand) still faithfully stick to the mistakes of  their English forefathers who did  not quite know what was what when they arrived here. And so we merrily mark the 1. June as our official start to Winter.

From Rainer Maria Rilke's Das Buch der Bilder
Last Verse

(my translation if one can "translate" Rilke at all)

Who has no house yet, will never build one
Who is alone now, will remain so for a long time
will stay awake, will read, will write long letters
will wander, restlessly,  in tree-lined avenues
among the  fallen, drifting  leaves

Uluru - Cronulla version

Sunset or Sunrise - I forget....does it matter?
