Merkel according to Goethe

Let me start this "thank-you-Merkel" note with a quote from one of the greatest literary works of all times "Faust" by the German Shakespeare, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832). 

This is how Mephistopheles presents himself to Faust in Part I of the Tragedy, in Professor Faust's study:  

...[Ich bin] ein Teil von jener Kraft,

Die stets das Böse will und stets das Gute schafft. 

Ich bin der Geist, der stets verneint!

Und das mit Recht; denn alles, was entsteht,

Ist wert, daß es zugrunde geht; 

Drum besser wär's, daß nichts entstünde.

So ist denn alles, was ihr Sünde,

Zerstörung, kurz das Böse nennt,

Mein eigentliches Element...

Here is my translation, imperfect (poetry can only be translated imperfectly in my opinion) but it will have to do:

...[I am] a part of that force,

That always strives for evil yet always creates good. ...

I am the spirit who always denies!

And rightfully so; for all that is created,

Is well worth to be destroyed;

Therefore it would be better that nothing should be created.

And thus is all that you call sin,

Destruction, in short, evil,

My very essence...
